Citizens on Patrol
Volunteer residents helping keep San Antonio Heights and Mt. Baldy safe in partnership with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
About the Programme
Citizen Volunteer Units are utilised throughout the county to assist the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department in meeting law enforcement objectives during the normal course of operation as well as times of disasters and emergencies.
The SAH–Mt. Baldy Citizens on Patrol group works alongside the Sheriff's Department to keep our neighbourhood safe. Volunteers observe, report, and deter — they are not law enforcement officers and do not make arrests.
What We Do
Keeping San Antonio Heights and Mt. Baldy safe, one patrol at a time.
Neighbourhood Patrols
Regular patrols of the SAH and Mt. Baldy areas to deter crime and report suspicious activity to the Sheriff's Department.
Vacation Home Checks
Volunteers check on homes of residents who are away on vacation or travel, walking the property and verifying all is secure.
Traffic Control Assistance
Provides traffic control assistance for accidents, heavy traffic, and as called upon by the CHP or Sheriff's Department.
Monthly Meetings
Members attend monthly meetings held on the last Tuesday of each month to coordinate patrols and share updates.
Vacation Home Checks
One of the key tasks performed by our SAH–Mt. Baldy Citizens on Patrol group is to check on homes of residents who are away — either on vacation or on a personal or business trip.
When on patrol, members will stop by the home, walk around it, and verify that all is okay. If there is a problem, COP members will contact whoever is identified on the request form or arrange whatever other assistance is needed.

Volunteer for the COP Programme
Have some extra time and looking for a way to give back to your community? The Citizens on Patrol is recruiting new volunteers to serve with the San Antonio Heights Citizens on Patrol.
Duties performed by COP volunteers permit sheriff deputies to concentrate on other law enforcement assignments. Participation will give you great personal satisfaction and the opportunity to serve your community in a very worthwhile and rewarding endeavour.
Volunteer Duties
- Patrol the SAH and Mt. Baldy areas
- Check properties of residents while away on vacation
- Provide traffic control assistance for accidents and heavy traffic
- Attend monthly meetings on the last Tuesday of each month
- Complete application, background check, and Sheriff's Department training
Becoming a volunteer is straightforward. It requires an application, a background check, and a training course conducted by the County of San Bernardino — no prior law enforcement experience needed.
